The surprise release of Counter Strike 2 this year has certainly caught many players off-guard. On September 27th 2023 Valve announced that they are finally releasing CS2 after a long wait. However, when all the players rushed to download their own copy of Counter Strike 2, they found the download speeds to be extremely slow. What’s Causing Long Queue Times In CS2?
Those who got lucky and managed to download CS2 without any serious delays, were unpleasantly surprised when they logged into the game. Although most of the game client was working as intended, gamers still found themselves unable to join any matchmaking game, and the queue times shown in-game were often in hours. On September 29th Valve released a Statement on their X account explaining the situation:
Turns out a lot of you want to play Counter-Strike 2! If you’re having trouble finding a match it’s because we’ve hit server capacity in different regions. We’re adding more server capacity as fast as possible. Thanks for your patience while this is being addressed.
Turns out that the long queue times are generally a server issue, and the large number of gamers who have rushed to try out the new game client has simply overrun the server capacity for all regions. Instead of adding more servers, the game devs have simply expanded on the server capacity that already was in the game in order to prevent the long queue times from happening.

How To Fix Long Queue Times In CS2?
If you’re struggling with long queue times between games, there’s sadly nothing you can really do. Long queue times that players are experiencing in Counter Strike 2 are a server-side issue, and until Valve fixes server capacity for CS2, you might be in for some long waiting.
In order to fix the long times that are plaguing so many players, Valve has also decided to remove CTTV, as well as demo recording features. Since these two are not necessary to run the game, both of the options have been disabled for now, in order to free up some server capacity for those who want to join in on the fun.
This isn’t a permanent fix, however, and these options will be disabled only until Counter Strike game devs add more capacity to the game servers. Until then, sadly, you won’t be able to record any CS2 demos.
