Players had the ability to trade CS2 skins for over a decade now, and there’s an entire economy built on some of the most expensive CS2 skins. If you were planning a purchase, such as an expensive CS2 knife, you had to generally use some complicated methods, like CS2 knife codes, to try out your weapon before a purchase.
Well, it appears that these days are behind us now! With the last CS2 update Valve introduced a feature that allows you to rent skins for a period of time. So, what exactly is the rental update and what features it introduced to the game? Here’s all you need to know!
What Was Added In The Latest CS2 Update?
22nd of May saw a small update added to the game, with minor client and graphical tweaks, so many people were surprised to see that there was another update that dropped on 23rd, the following day. What was even more surprising, is that besides small changes to one of the maps, it also added one new feature, that is almost definitely going to have an impact on CS2 trading. So, what changes were added to the game this week?
CS2 Rent Skins Feature
It appears that from now on, you’ll be able to test skins in-game before purchasing them. With the new patch, you can now try skins for a rental period of one week. You can equip rented weapons in your loadout and see how that one skin you want actually looks in-game, and if the high price tag will be worth it. After the rental period is over, all equipped rented weapons will be removed and replaced with the stock option.
At the moment, there’s only an option to rent weapon finishes from the latest Kilowatt Case, although in the future there will most likely be an option to rent skins from other collections and cases. When you open a Kilowatt Case with a key, you now have a chance to simply rent all the skins available for a week instead of receiving a random skin. This means that if you choose the option to rent, you won’t receive any permanent skin after the week is over. Also, currently, you can’t rent out knife finishes, nor can you place CS2 stickers on rented guns.
Vertigo Map Changes
Valve introduced a significant change to one of the active duty maps in the current roster. Vertigo received some small tweaks to its design, in order to balance out the match and make defending the points slightly more difficult for the CT team. There were two significant changes in the last update:
- New catwalk connecting bombsite A with its backside. This opens up a completely new entryway, both for the attackers and defenders.
- Removed connector between A and the elevators, opened up passage is now in its place. This allows for faster rushing into A.
Molotovs And Incendiary Grenade Nerf
There’s a saying that god giveth and god taketh and it also applies to CS2. The latest update has also added a small change to how molotovs and incendiary grenades, essentially nerfing them a little bit. First of all, when you now apply fire anywhere on the map, you’ll probably notice that the flames don’t go quite as high up. They also dissipitate over time and cover a smaller AoE. To balance this out, they are now available at a reduced price for $500.
In Conclusion
Here is what you need to know about the new CS2 update. Being able to rent skins in Counter Strike is something absolutely new, and we can probably expect to be able to test more new CS2 skins in the future.
