AWP Doodle Lore is perhaps the most controversial out of awp skins in the game. This infamous AWP skin is also one of the rarest skins in the game, so rare that in fact, many players don’t even recognize the name Doodle Lore, despite this sniper rifle weapon skin causing quite a large controversy in the past. Still, the name is well-known to anyone who’s interested in trading CS:GO (CS2) skins.
So why is AWP Doodle Lore so controversial, despite its innocent looks? Here’s a quick story and everything you need to know about this AWP weapon skin.
What Is The AWP Doodle Lore?
The Revolution weapon case was added to the game by Valve on February 9th, 2023. It included a number of different skins, but one that stood out and immediately attracted attention was the Covert AWP skin, titled ‘Doodle Lore’.
The skin immediately made rounds, as it was a very clever shot at the most expensive CSGO weapon skin for the very same sniper rifle, the AWP Dragon Lore. Compared to its original counterpart, instead of including a high-quality dragon graphic on its side, this gun came only with a comedic drawing of a cartoon version of this classic monster. Although looking quite funny, the carton dragon was highly detailed and features a different color scheme than its original counterpart. The colors were almost an inverted version of AWP Dragon Lore, with a darker metallic color and the graphic in a more blueish hue.
The gun had great looks, and all players immediately wanted to get their hands on this rare AWP skin. Those who wanted to open this gun in the Revolution weapon case didn’t get to try for too long, as the gun’s viral looks immediately gathered the attention of someone else, besides CSGO players. We’re talking about the original creator of the dragon featured on this weapon skin, Danidem.
Not too long after the game’s release, Danidem came clear on his Twitter account, that the image of the dragon on the skin was made by him and used without his knowledge. The Dragon was actually a drawing he made a couple of years ago and posted to his Instagram account. The user who added the skin to the game simply lifted the image 1-to-1 and placed it on the skin.
Where Is AWP Doodle Lore Now?
In response to Danidem’s claim about copyright infringement, Valve has removed the skin from the game, replacing it with another Covert weapon skin in the case. Players can no longer open the AWP Doodle Lore from the Revolution weapon case, nor can they purchase it on the Steam community market. Neither is it possible to off-load it when you try to sell CS:GO (CS2) skins.
Many player were severely disappointed, as they thought that after it was removed, AWP Doodle Lore would join another infamous skin, M4A4 Howl, in the rare category of removed CSGO skins, contraband. Sadly, this did not happen, and AWP Doodle Lore was instead completely removed from the game. Players who were holding the skin were instead given AWP Duality in return, which is freely available at the Steam community market.
In Conclusion
AWP Doodle Lore was sadly another case of copyright infringement in CSGO history. As cool as the skin might have looked, however, it is now only a memory in the CSGO history, together with much of the other content, which was eventually removed from the game.
