Spy is one of the most popular classes in the game, and that’s not without a good reason. Besides his extremely cool look and demeanor, he’s able to swiftly assassinate key enemies, sneak behind enemy lines to destroy sentry nests, and create a whole bunch of big plays.

While fun to play, Spy is also one of the most difficult classes in the game, as he’s fragile and often has to make risky plays. Still, in order to support himself in the match, Spy can choose from a selection of different, awesome tools. Here are the best Spy weapons you can get for yourself today!

Ambassador

We’re opening this list with one of the very first items that were introduced for the Spy class, and possibly the best revolver available to the Spy class – The Ambassador. This gun is one of the best weapons available to Spy, and in many ways is a direct upgrade over the stock revolver for the Spy. At first sight, it might look like the Ambassador comes with a wide set of different downgrades: lower damage, slower firing speed, and most importantly, no random critical hits. However, this is all outweighed by the fact that the Ambassador guarantees a critical hit upon every headshot. This makes it much more useful than the original gun since Spy is one of the least tanky classes in the game and you’d generally die in a couple of shots when confronted without your disguise kit or invisibility watch. The Ambassador is a great alternative to using your melee weapon for backstabbing since it can take out most fragile classes in the game with two shots to the head. If you’re a good sniper, you can also take headshots at larger distances on maps with more open spaces.

Your Eternal Reward

Besides some impressive visuals, this ornate knife is also one of the best melee weapons for the Spy currently available in the game. This butterfly knife alternative requires a little bit more skill to master, but in skilled hands is extremely powerful and can let a trained Spy completely dominate the match. Your Eternal Reward is the stealthiest knife in the game, allowing you to instantly kill any player with a standard backstab, while making their body invisible and immediately taking on their disguise. Backstabs with Your Eternal Reward doesn’t give out a kill notice, nor do they make the Spy say any voice liens. In addition, when you change into your opponent with this weapon, the switch is so quick any of the enemy sentry guns won’t have time to spot you. Because of this, Your Eternal Reward is a great weapon for taking out an enemy engineer in their sentry nest. Any downsides? Your cloak meter will drain 1/3 faster, and putting on a new disguise will automatically use up all of the meter.

L’etranger

Although less often picked than the Ambassador, L’etranger is a great primary weapon choice for Spy players, who want to sneak around more. While the L’etranger is equipped, not only does it extend your cloak duration, but each hit from this Spy weapon will also charge your invis watch meter by 15%. While the gun comes with a -20% damage reduction, its main use is to help you stay cloaked for as long as you can. In addition, when you combine it with Your Eternal Reward, it completely nullifies the cloak meter drain penalty. If you enjoy the stealth aspect of the Spy game, L’etranger is definitely for you.

Dead Ringer

One of the Spy classics, the Dead Ringer is difficult to master but is also a great choice for any of the players who enjoy big plays. The reason behind this difficulty is that the Dead Ringer completely changes how the class operates. The Dead Ringer completely takes away your cloaking ability and instead will cloak you upon receiving a hit, leaving a fake corpse behind. With a full cloak meter, upon being hit the meter drops to half, immediately cloaking the spy, giving him a speed boost and an extra damage shield. The Dead Ringer has always been the favorite of all Spy players who are into psychological games, and although it’s very difficult to master, it’s also a great tool to decimate the opposing team, who might be completely unaware that they skipped over you. Upon activation the Spy also gets 3 seconds of afterburn immunity, making it a useful tool to counter Pyros.

Conniver’s Kunai

Another alternative to the Spy melee weapon, the Conniver’s Kunai is a risky choice, but it can be a great tool to fight off a tanky team. This melee weapon lowers your already measly health pool by 55 points, which is almost a half. This means that if caught unaware, with Conniver’s Kunai you could get killed in one shot by many classes in the game. However, once you get on a roll with this weapon, it can be difficult to stop, as every successful backstab will steal HP from your enemies, and consequently increase your pool, providing you an overheal of up to 210 HP. Whenever you backstab an enemy with this melee weapon, their current HP is immediately added to yours as an overheal, which makes it easier to take out a group of enemies with well-aimed backstabs. A much riskier choice than the stock knife, Conniver’s Kunai is a situational item, but it’s good to keep it in your backpack in case you face off against a team full of Heavies and Soldiers.

Diamondback

We’re closing off this list with this Deus-ex-inspired primary weapon for the Spy, the Diamondback. This weapon is only for the pros, as it will only gimp you if you don’t know how to play effectively. The gun has a -15% damage reduction, as well as a complete lack of random critical hits. However, for every successful backstab or an enemy building construction sapped, the gun stores a single critical hit. A great tool if you can snowball, the Diamondback can be useful in head-on fights, where you can take out most non-Heavy classes with a couple of well-placed crits. However, if you can’t score the crits on Diamondback, this weapon will only lower your damage, so think well before you choose it.
