The Butterfly Knife is a cosmetic knife skins that first appeared in CSGO back in 2014, along with the Operation Breakout update. It is presumed to be modeled after the Gargoyle Scimitar Hybrid knife, produced by the American manufacturer Terry Guinn. The original butterfly knife was invented in the Philippines. Its defining characteristic is the “fan-like opening of a freely pivoting blade, allowing rapid deployment or concealment”, which also led to the weapon being banned in many countries. In CS2 (CSGO), the Butterfly Knife is available to both Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists.
The Butterfly Knife is a cosmetic knife which means that it provides the same combat features as the regular default knife. It enables two firing modes: STAB and SLASH. The main advantage is its ability to produce little noise, which is useful for sneak attacks. On top of that, the Butterfly Knife is very light, therefore, it does not affect the player’s movement speed negatively, which can prove crucial if a sudden escape is necessary. What makes it different from other knives in the game is that it provides two different animations that appear randomly.
The Butterfly knife, similar to other cosmetic knives, has a vast range of skins available. It is an ultra-rare CS (CSGO) item, therefore, its skins have a very low drop probability. This means that their Steam Market prices are likely to be extremely high. Fortunately, they are characterized by interesting designs and fun color schemes, which might make up for their budget-unfriendliness. The cheapest Butterfly Knife skin is the Scorched, whereas the most expensive one is the Fade. They usually cost up to $650 and $1900, respectively.
