CS2 Pets: How Chickens Work in Counter-Strike 2

Valve added pets without a word in the patch notes. Players found the eggs in their Weekly Care Package, and the game files filled in the rest. You can own one pet at a time. It grows from egg to chick, then to pullet and hen, and it lives on Chicken Feed the whole way.

From Egg to Hen

Every egg hatches into the same yellow chick, which stays in the main menu. Once it grows into a pullet, it gets its breed and color and can come with you into matches. The hen is the same bird, just bigger. Chickens don’t live forever: a well-fed hen retires of old age, and a hungry one walks out early. Our CS2 pets guide has the exact timings and the feeding schedule.

Breeds and Colors

All three breeds are named after real chickens. Catalana comes in 13 colors, Polish in 12 and Silkie in 9, which gives 34 variants. Valve hasn’t published any odds, so nobody can say yet which chicken is the rarest. Every color, rendered from the game files, is in All CS2 Chicken Breeds and Colors.

Can You Trade CS2 Pets?

No. Valve marks the egg, the feed and the chickens as non-tradable and non-marketable, so you can’t buy one, sell one or swap it with a friend. That is why pets show no price here or on the Steam Market. A rare color is something to show off in the lobby, not something to cash in. What does trade is the rest of the photo: your agent and, since the October 2 patch, your gloves both appear in the pet photo booth.
