Chicken Egg: Pet in CS2
The Chicken Egg is the item that starts the pet system in Counter-Strike 2. It arrived with the Rush Hour update on 22 September 2026, and Valve did not list it in the patch notes. Once claimed, the egg sits in the main menu, where it can be inspected.
Where It Comes From
The Chicken Egg drops from the Weekly Care Package, the weekly reward for levelling up in matches. Claiming the egg takes both reward slots, so it replaces every other pick that week. The egg cannot be bought in the in-game store.
How It Hatches
According to its in-game description, the egg hatches about a week after it is received. The hatch date is set when the egg is claimed, and nothing speeds it up. The egg hatches into a Pet Chick, which later grows into an adult chicken of one of three breeds: Catalana, Polish or Silkie. The colour of the egg does not show which chicken is inside.
Rarity and Trading
The Chicken Egg carries the High Grade rarity. Valve’s item description marks it as non-tradable and non-marketable, so it cannot be bought from or sold to other players. More details are in our CS2 chicken eggs guide.
