Weapon cases in CS2 are one of the most important features of the game. What Are CS2 Weapon Cases?
A CS2 weapon case is a type of lootbox, which contains a CS2 weapon skin inside. There are many ways in which players can obtain weapon case drops in CS2, such as:
- Playing the game
- Weekly care package
- Steam marketplace
In order to open each weapon case, the players need appropriate CS2 case keys, which can be purchased in the in-game store. Each case has its own pool of weapon skins inside, either created by the community or Valve devs, with a special rare knife skin or gloves skin available inside. Each individual case requires a single key to open, and rewards the player with a single skin, selected at random.

How Can You Calculate CS2 Case Odds?
Every time you open a CS2 weapon case, you are rewarded with a single random skin. While everyone wants to land the desirable skins, it’s impossible to tell which unique skins you’re going to get from opening cases. However, depending on the number of case openings, is it possible to tell what are your case odds?
In the past, Valve used to keep this information secret, and players who wanted to maybe learn more about the way case odds worked had to watch streams of case openings and try to crunch the numbers themselves. This, of course, was not very accurate, and at best, served only as a way to show how many cases a player with average luck needs to open to get a rare drop.
However, in 2017 China’s Ministry of Culture introduced a new requirement for any game devs that if their game contains loot boxes, they are obliged by law to release official numbers for loot box odds. Valve had to comply with this requirement, releasing official case odds. These are, for every rarity level in the game:
- Mil-Spec Grade – 79.92%
- Restricted – 15.98%
- Classified – 3.2%
- Covert – 0.64%
- Exceedingly Rare (Knives, Gloves) – 0.26%
Although it’s still impossible to tell what skins you get inside your CS2 cases exactly, these odds show how rare each tier is: on average, only about one case in 385 contains a knife or gloves.
Can You Sell CS2 Cases?
Yes, you can not only sell all the skins in every case you open, but you can also trade CS2 cases themselves. If you don’t want to gamble on CS2 cases, you can sell the cases from your inventory on the Steam Community Market instead.
