The Cheapest Butterfly Knife Skins in CS2 (2026)
On this page

This list covers the cheapest Butterfly Knife skins in CS2, with the lowest price of every finish on SkinsMonkey on 29 October 2026 and the wear we would buy for each. The cheapest Butterfly, the Safari Mesh in Field-Tested, costs $568.61. Out of all Butterfly Knife skins, 13 of the 25 finishes start under $750, and 4 start under $600.

The most useful thing to know before you buy a cheap Butterfly is that Battle-Scarred is often not the cheapest wear. On the camo finishes, Field-Tested and Well-Worn regularly cost the same as Battle-Scarred or less, because fewer players want the most worn copies. Check every wear before you trade. The sections below go up in price and name the finish we would pick in each.

How We Picked the Cheapest Butterfly Knife Skins

Cheapest here means the lowest price you can pay for the finish in any wear. Each section below is a price range by that number. Inside each section we name the copy we would buy and the wear we would buy it in, because the cheapest wear is not always the best value. Prices are SkinsMonkey prices checked on 29 October 2026, normal copies only, and they change with the market.

The Butterfly comes from three groups of cases, and each group has its own cheapest finish. The original finishes from the Operation Breakout Weapon Case are the cheapest. The Chroma finishes from the Spectrum cases and the Gamma finishes from the Operation Riptide Case and the Dreams & Nightmares Case both start about $100 higher.

Under $600: The Cheapest Butterfly Knives in CS2

Four camo finishes from the Operation Breakout Weapon Case start under $600, and the first three are within about $5 of each other. All of them come in every wear, and on all of them Battle-Scarred costs more than the cheapest wear.

01Butterfly Knife | Urban Masked

Butterfly Knife | Urban Masked

Wear we would buy
Field-Tested
Price on Oct 29
$598.47
From today
$596.42

Our pick from the cheapest Butterflies. Grey and white urban camo that looks clean on a steel blade and goes with almost any loadout. It costs about $30 more than Safari Mesh, and we think the lighter colour is worth it, because the Butterfly shows its blade on every flip. Field-Tested costs $598.47, less than Battle-Scarred at $603.84 and Well-Worn at $614.96. SkinsMonkey listed 15 copies on 29 October 2026.

  • Butterfly Knife | Safari Mesh, from $568.61 (Field-Tested). The cheapest Butterfly Knife in CS2. Tan and brown mesh camo. Field-Tested is cheaper than Battle-Scarred at $577.20 and Well-Worn at $577.78, so there is no reason to buy a worse wear.
  • Butterfly Knife | Forest DDPAT, from $572.13 (Field-Tested). Green, brown and black digital camo. Field-Tested costs $572.13 and Battle-Scarred $582.77.
  • Butterfly Knife | Boreal Forest, from $573.75 (Well-Worn). Dark green and grey forest camo, the darkest of the four. Well-Worn and Field-Tested cost almost the same, $573.75 and $574.30, so take Field-Tested.

$600 to $700: Night, Scorched and the Cheapest Gamma and Chroma Finishes

This range has the most choice for the price. You get two more original finishes, the cheapest Chroma finish and two Gamma finishes, and some of them look far more expensive than they are.

02Butterfly Knife | Night

Butterfly Knife | Night

Wear we would buy
Battle-Scarred
Price on Oct 29
$653.51
From today
$653.90

A dark blue-grey blade with almost no pattern, so wear is hard to see and the knife looks clean even in Battle-Scarred. That makes Night the best-looking Butterfly in this range for the least money. Battle-Scarred costs $653.51 and Field-Tested $687.61, so the step up is small if you want a cleaner copy. Factory New costs $2,396.19, almost four times Battle-Scarred.

  • Butterfly Knife | Scorched, from $604.28 (Battle-Scarred). Black and brown burn marks over the blade. It had 20 copies listed, and Battle-Scarred, Well-Worn and Field-Tested cost within $17 of each other.
  • Butterfly Knife | Ultraviolet, from $667.29 (Battle-Scarred). The cheapest Chroma finish on the Butterfly. Deep purple that turns almost black in shadow. Field-Tested costs $744.13.
  • Butterfly Knife | Lore, from $684.49 (Battle-Scarred). The cheapest Gamma finish. Gold with engraved lines, and the Butterfly finish with the most copies listed on 29 October 2026. Field-Tested costs $825.98.
  • Butterfly Knife | Bright Water, from $686.81 (Battle-Scarred). Blue and white water pattern from the Gamma cases. All five wears cost between $686.81 and $814.07, so Factory New is only about $130 more than the cheapest copy.

$700 to $1,000: Crimson Web, Case Hardened and the Steel Finishes

Above $700 you can buy the best-known original finishes in worn condition. On most finishes in this range the wears are close together, so the choice is about colour more than float.

03Butterfly Knife | Crimson Web

Butterfly Knife | Crimson Web

Wear we would buy
Battle-Scarred
Price on Oct 29
$752.39
From today
$775.21

The cheapest way to own one of the most famous Butterfly finishes. Red with a black spider web. In Factory New the same finish costs $6,882.22, and in Battle-Scarred $752.39. The red is darker on a worn copy, but the web is still easy to see in first person. Well-Worn costs $903.54 if you want a little more colour.

  • Butterfly Knife | Rust Coat, from $712.01 (Battle-Scarred). Rust over a dark blade. It only comes in Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred, because the finish is designed to look old.
  • Butterfly Knife | Stained, from $713.83 (Well-Worn). Dark steel with coloured stains. Well-Worn is the cheapest wear here, cheaper than Battle-Scarred at $725.62.
  • Butterfly Knife | Black Laminate, from $744.13 (Battle-Scarred). Black and grey layers from the Gamma cases. A quiet finish that goes with any loadout.
  • Butterfly Knife | Freehand, from $748.02 (Well-Worn). A hand-drawn pattern from the Gamma cases. Battle-Scarred costs more than Well-Worn here.
  • Butterfly Knife | Case Hardened, from $906.84 (Well-Worn). Gold and blue metal patches. The price here is for an ordinary pattern; copies with a mostly blue blade sell for far more.
  • Butterfly Knife | Autotronic, from $919.00 (Battle-Scarred). Red and black mechanical lines from the Gamma cases.
  • Butterfly Knife | Damascus Steel, from $921.45 (Battle-Scarred). Grey steel with wave lines. All five wears cost between $921.45 and $1,109.54, so Factory New costs only about $190 more than the cheapest copy.
  • Butterfly Knife | Blue Steel, from $930.15 (Battle-Scarred). Blue-tinted steel from the original set.

Vanilla and the Finishes That Never Get Cheap

Some Butterflies have no cheap version at all. Fade, Marble Fade, Tiger Tooth and the Doppler finishes only come in Factory New and Minimal Wear, and Slaughter only goes down to Field-Tested, so their cheapest copy still costs more than $1,400. For those, see our list of the most expensive Butterfly Knife skins.

Price on Oct 29

The Butterfly with no finish at all: a plain steel blade and black handles, with no wear and no float. Many players like it because it shows the shape of the knife and nothing else. It is not cheap, though: on 29 October 2026 SkinsMonkey listed one copy at $1,598.77, more than most worn finishes in this post. If you like the look, Damascus Steel or Night give a similar plain blade for less.

Which Cheap Butterflies Look Best in Game

The Butterfly shows its blade on every draw and inspect, so a cheap finish looks good when the blade has a clear colour. Many cheap Butterflies are camo, which matches well but is hard to notice. These five are the cheap copies we think look best on screen.

Does Wear Matter on Cheap Butterfly Knives

Less than most players expect, and sometimes the other way around. On many cheap Butterflies the most worn copy is not the cheapest: Safari Mesh costs $568.61 in Field-Tested and $577.20 in Battle-Scarred, and Stained costs less in Well-Worn than in Battle-Scarred. Field-Tested looks much better, so on these finishes it is the wear to buy.

The exceptions are the finishes with a big jump at the top. On Crimson Web, Night and Ultraviolet, Factory New costs about four to nine times Battle-Scarred, because very few clean copies exist. On those, buy the wear you can afford, and expect Minimal Wear to cost much more than Field-Tested.

How to Get a Cheap Butterfly Knife

Knives drop as the rare special item in cases, and Valve’s published odds put that slot at 0.26% per case. The Operation Breakout Weapon Case is the only case where the Butterfly is the only possible knife, so every knife from it is a Butterfly, but the finish is random. Since 22 October 2025 you can also trade up five Covert skins into a knife from the collection of one of the skins you put in. Neither route lets you choose the finish or the wear. Our guide to the cases with the Butterfly Knife lists what each case holds.

Trading is the direct way to get a specific Butterfly in a specific wear. On SkinsMonkey you log in through Steam, add skins from your inventory, pick the knife and the bot sends the trade offer, and you can check the float of each copy first. If you want to know what your inventory is worth before you trade, our CS2 Inventory Value Checker shows it in about a minute. For our picks at every budget, see the best Butterfly Knife skins, and for cheaper knives of every type, the cheapest CS2 knives.

Bottom line

Safari Mesh is the cheapest, Night is the one we would buy

The cheapest Butterfly Knife in CS2 is the Safari Mesh in Field-Tested, at $568.61 on SkinsMonkey on 29 October 2026. Four camo finishes start under $600, and on all of them Field-Tested or Well-Worn costs less than Battle-Scarred.

For about $85 more, Butterfly Knife | Night in Battle-Scarred at $653.51 looks much better, because the dark blade hides wear. If you want colour, Crimson Web in Battle-Scarred at $752.39 is the cheapest way to own the classic red Butterfly.
